Here is my challenge to you: Create a sketch of a new map!

I already got a new map suggestion from Chris in April and took this picture as a reference for new suggestions.
– Plain an simple, everyone can see how the layout will be
– Supports the single direction scrolling of the current map (only vertical scrolling)

Submissions can be either made via facebook or in this forum thread.

The challenge closes in two weeks. At that point I will collect all submissions and put them in a poll, so we can vote for our favorite!

We have a winner: Challenge 0.9

In the latest challenge I called out for a new player skill. After having some good sleep over all submissions I finally made up my mind what to implement.

And the winner is LHL with the health increment skill…

Level 1 = 10% increase of health
Level 2 = 20% increase of health
Level 3 = 30% increase of health
Level 4 = 40% increase of health
Level 5 = 50% increase of health
Level 6 = 60% increase of health
Level 7 = 70% increase of health
Level 8 = 80% increase of health
Level 9 = 90% increase of health
Level 10 = 100% increase of health

It was a tough decision, but I liked the simplicity of it. Also (from all those card idea submissions) I have some ideas how to utilize this life skill with new (evil darkness) towers…

New community challenge!


With version 0.8 available for some time now, it is about time for a new community challenge as well. With the newly introduced endless mode the ladder is getting more and more dense. In the top field there are at this moment already 5 players who are > level 80! Players are running out of options on the current skill tree!

So my challenge to you is: Think about a new player skill. Let your creativity go nuts! There are no rules, except that the best submission will be implemented in 0.9! The challenge ends February, 28th. I’m very excited about your suggestions and the new skill!

This evening I implemented Thomadin’s challenge reward, the Essence of Wisdom. It’s a really, really great idea. I think this potion will be loads of fun in the next version!

PS: Next task will be implementation of the remaining set challenge rewards of the previous challenge. (I haven’t forgotten you :-))

Congratulations! I found it quite interesting that all posted ideas developed in the same direction, so I think we got a nice foil card concept now.

But I fear we must wait for 0.9 to see it in the game. The 0.8 sprint will be a really, really heavy lift already, with a lot of bugfixes and balancing adjustments.

@Thomadin, your reward however shall make it to 0.8: Card of your choice, yeah!

New version, new challenge for the community! This time it is about gameplay: Everyone, suggest a way to earn foil cards. The best idea will be implemented and the winner will be rewarded with a card of his/her choice.

One feature I announced for 0.7 was the introduction of foil cards. Foil was half way implemented when I decided to drop it for 0.7.

The main reason was, that I didn’t like how it changed the way I was playing the game. The way I implemented foil was:
– A tower gains a foil level whenever the tower levels up
– Anytime you replace a tower the foil level is reset to 1
– At foil level 50 you receive the foil card of the tower

It’s a nice concept, but it’s contrary to the way the game should be played. The great thing about playing Mazebert is the fact that you can experiment and replace your tower as much as you like. With foil levels implemented I did tend to rather not replace the carry tower, which led to boring games which got lost in the end because of not adapting properly to the upcoming waves/incoming towers and items.

The constraints for your suggestion are:
– For now foil is just for tower cards
– Earning foil cards should require game SKILLS
– The concept for earning foil cards should be easy to understand
– The difficulty for earning the corresponding foil card should vary from tower to tower

I’m very excited about this challenge. For now, I’ve already seen so many different strategies and clever ideas from you, I didn’t even think of when I implemented the game. So I think there will be a lot of fantastic ideas and suggestions. Looking forward to them. Very much!

Challenge 0.7

Herby I proudly annonuce the winners for challenge 0.7. I must admit that the decision was damn hard! So many good suggestions to choose from, but those are the top three:

#1 Frozen (Vasuhn)
#2 Withered Set (Infinity)
#3 Impatience’s Wrath (Mokhnaar)

Don’t be upset if your submission did not make it! The competition was insane! And remember, there will always be a version after 0.8. For this version however, three sets is the maximum I can add with my little amount of manpower.
